Canyons and Kayaks Holiday in Mexico

Canyons & Kayaks Holiday to Baja California, Mexico as featured in National Geographic by Chris Moss.

The reliable sunshine and comprehensive amenities of Baja California, with its wild desert landscape scorched by flaming sunsets and indented with hidden coves, create a magnetic holiday destination. Here you can choose from a range of outdoor sports or just relax under an infinite eggshell-blue sky. Facilities are high quality across the range. Combine with a trip on the world-renowned Copper Canyon railway, cutting a swathe through the desert inland from Mexico’s west coast.
Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Mexico City, 2 nights.
Day 2: Excursion to Teotihuacán and Guadalupe.
Day 3: Fly to Chihuahua, 1 night.
Day 4: Board the Copper Canyon train to Creel, 1 night.
Day 5: Train to Divisadero and on to Posada Barrancas, 1 night.
Day 6: Train to El Fuerte, 1 night.
Day 7: Day at leisure, road transfer to Los Mochis airport.
Day 8: At leisure in in La Paz, 3 nights.
Day 9: Kayak expedition.
Day 10: Optional whale watching trip.
Day 11: Fly to Mexico City, 1 night.
Day 12: Transfer to airport.

The 12 days costs from £2,123pp. Excluding international flights, a guideline for the flights is £780.

Owing to many clients' preference for flexibility, and the variation in flight price according to season and availability, the price quoted excludes the cost of international flights, which we will happily arrange for you. Flights to Latin America can be daytime or overnight, while the return flight is always overnight, so you will need to add at least one day to arrive at the total length of your holiday.

Alternatively we offer a shorten version, aptly named Multi-day Mexican kayaking activity which can be added to both our Private and Group Journey itineraries. You'll explore the exquisite coastline of Espiritú Santo by taking to the open waves in a state-of-the-art sea kayak, travelling from one secluded bay to the next before spending nights under canvas beneath starry Baja California skies.

"The Copper Canyon is one of the world’s great train journeys. With almost 90 tunnels, 39 bridges and a switchback where the train doubles back on itself, the journey is half the fun! Couple this with the stunning scenery and you have an unforgettable family trip. Children will love learning the history of the bandits in Chihuahua, staying in the house where Zorro was born in El Fuerte, riding the mountain bike trails around Creel and trying out the variety of different Chili peppers. For those with a head for heights, the recently-completed cable car stretching across the canyons claims to be the world’s largest and offers unrivalled views of the region."

Note: in September 2014 a hurricane caused disruption to services and infrastructure in Baja California. AS a result of this damage some hotels and local businesses have been temporarily closed, but it is hoped that  most of these will be up and running again in November.
