Explore unique hotels in Latin America’s buzzing cities. From colonial charm to sleek modern decor each one offers a tranquil haven to call home during your journey around the continent.

1. Hotel B, Lima

Due to open to the public in March, this brand new boutique hotel is the first of its kind in Peru’s capital, Lima. The renovation aims to rediscover the opulence found in the original mansion house, designed by Claude Sahut. Located in the heart of the bohemian quarter, you’ll be spoilt for choice of art galleries, fashion boutiques and the city’s array of historical sites.

2. La Passion Hotel, Cartagena

In contrast to the minimalist style of the W Hotel, La Passion in Cartagena occupies the colonial building of an 18th century palace and is located inside the old city walls, among shady cobbled streets and floral balconies. The definition of shabby-chic, it’s owned by a French film director (working with his Colombian partner) who has filled this truly unique property full of artefacts from his travels around the world.

3. Las Clementinas, Panama City

Panama City

Standing proud in the evocative old town (Casco Viejo), the building’s sophisticated elegance is nothing less than warm and welcoming. With 6 inviting chambers, as they are called, this chic accommodation stands out from ordinary hotel rooms. Each chamber occupies an entire floor, and consists of a bedroom, living area and kitchen. The rooms are classically decorated in subtle contemporary tones, preserving many of the 20th century building’s original features.

4. Mansion Vitraux, Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

Set in bohemian San Telmo this quirky boutique hotel is set in a charming quarter of Buenos Aires that’s known for its tango houses, cafés and Sunday antique market. From the outside the building is a sophisticated amalgamation of styles: Middle Eastern, ultra-contemporary and classic. It sits in striking contrast to the colonial houses lining the narrow streets of San Telmo. The sophisticated look is brought indoors and can be seen throughout the 12 rooms that are individually decorated in the same eclectic mix of styles.

5. W Hotel, Mexico City

Day of the Dead

This is the first W Hotels to have opened in Latin America, located in the capital’s fashionable Polanco district this boutique hotel oozes contemporary style and comfort. The fresh look of the hotel contrasts classic, colonial Mexico through minimalist furnishings and a sleek black, white and cherry red colour palette. Its stylish clientele fill the chic yet lively hotel bar and restaurant to create an upbeat atmosphere and an alternative perspective on Mexican city life.
