Family trip to Cuba

Ask our Experts

I'm wondering how best to tour Cuba as a family with a teenage son (almost 15) and daughter of 11. We all want an adventure and the chance to improve our Spanish. We'd be setting out from New York....

Cuba is a very family-friendly country so it's a good choice, especially as you're adventurous. We can tailor-made a trip for you according to your needs.

If you have at least two weeks, you can enjoy a mix of colonial cities and some very scenic areas of the countryside where you can do activities as trekking, horseback riding and cycling at the same time as absorbing the culture. I can recommend several national parks in Cuba where it's possible to combine bird-watching, snorkelling, fishing and scuba diving, or just relax on the powder-white sand beaches.

However if you have less time the best option may be to concentrate on one or two areas with a lot of variety, for example the beautiful and very well-preserved colonial town of Trinidad, which offers access to the beach within just a 20-minute drive and to the mountains, 30 minutes away.

If you would like to improve your Spanish a good idea would be to stay with local families in some areas during your trip. It is not only great for your language skills but gives a unique insight into life in Cuba, and we certainly can help you with that too.

You mention that you will be coming from New York but not whether you are American citizens. If you are, there is no need to worry about passport stamps as we can arrange a Cuban tourist card for you, which will be stamped in lieu of your passport, ensuring there is no evidence of your visit in your US passport. Either way, you'll need to fly to either Cancún or Mexico City and from there travel onwards to Havana as there are obviously no flights to Cuba from the US.

If you'd like to discuss your options, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me, so we can prepare a tailor-made trip for you and your family. Alternatively you might look at our Cuba Private Journey for families.
