What are the rules for travelling to Latin America?

Last updated 20 January 2022

There is no requirement for travellers from the UK to quarantine after returning to the UK from Latin America.

The changing rules surrounding travel following covid-19 can be confusing, whether it’s border advice, entry requirements, or questions of testing or quarantine. Here at Journey Latin America, we are closely monitoring developments in all our destinations and have put together an overview of the latest information.

This is a summary of the current situation.  The rules continue to evolve, so may well change by the time you begin your trip.  We keep this information under constant review, so please do check back for regularly updated news, and we strongly recommend you click on the links for each country you plan to visit or transit to ensure you have the most up to date official guidelines.

We strongly advise travelling with proof of full vaccination* against Covid-19. Even where this is not a requirement for entry, it may be needed to access places of interest, accommodation and restaurants. If you are not fully vaccinated, local restrictions may significantly impact your holiday.

* Vaccination status is generally based on the most recent dose being received at least 14-days prior.

Regulations continue to evolve, particularly for the non-vaccinated, and changes are likely between time of booking and travel.

Our Flexible Booking Policy allows you to make long term plans with complete confidence, whilst our Safe Journey guidelines ensure we will not operate your holiday unless we are confident we can do so with your safety and enjoyment at the heart of our planning.

  • See the relevant country of departure to Antarctica, below.

For full details of current entry requirements and relevant links to documentation from the UK, see the relevant country of arrival’s FCDO Travel Advice and the IATA Travel Centre which provides comprehensive information for travellers worldwide.

Due to entry restrictions to Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands until late 2021, there is a limited Antarctic cruise operation in 2021/22.  Hopes are high for a more normal 2022/23 season.

Visitors must register their vaccination details with the Chilean authorities prior to travel to obtain a ‘mobility pass’ (see Chile Mobility Pass application and links below) which can take up to one month to process. Once issued, your authorisation is valid for entry to Chile within 45 days.  We therefore advise applying 45-50 days prior to arrival in Chile.  A Chile arrival form must also be completed 48 hours before starting trip (see Chile Arrival Form and links below)
  • Additionally, travellers are requested to complete a daily ‘self-report’ for 10 days via an online form or ‘C19 Reporte’.  Details will be provided following a health screening on arrival in Chile.
