We're delighted to announce that we will be displaying our very own garden at this summer's RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show from 5-10 July 2016.
Journey Latin America's Pachamama Garden
Journey Latin America’s Inca Garden, co-sponsored by British Airways, is designed by Jennifer Jones Garden Design Ltd and will be on display in the World Gardens exhibition area for visitors to enjoy for the duration of the show.
Inspired by the ancient Inca civilisation of Peru, who were pioneers in botany and horticulture, Journey Latin America’s Inca Garden evokes a sense of adventure, travel and exploration of a mysterious historic culture. It recreates the experiences of American explorer Hiram Bingham who discovered the “lost” Inca citadel of Machu Picchu high in the Peruvian Andes in 1911.
Dense native tropical foliage surrounds the garden’s entrance and veils a dramatic three-tiered terrace evoking the famous terraces of Machu Picchu. The garden is planted with traditional Inca crops including maize, potato and quinoa, while the intricate stone walling pays homage to the trademark work of highly skilled Inca masons.
The sound of falling water creates a peaceful, harmonious atmosphere and completes the four cosmological principles which the Incas believed originated from their goddess Pachamama (Mother Earth): sun, moon, earth and water.
Journey Latin America’s Inca Garden is co-sponsored by British Airways and celebrates 2016 as the year of the first ever non-stop direct flights between the UK and Peru. British Airways is one of the world’s most prestigious and trusted airlines, offering excellent service and an extensive route network which as of May 2016 includes three flights per week from London Gatwick non-stop direct to Lima, Peru.
