Lovingly restored boutique hotel in the workaday heart of old Montevideo

Alma Historica encapsulates the 19th century ambience of Montevideo’s once glittering Ciudad Vieja quarter. Formerly a grand old mansion, it was beautifully renovated before opening in 2014 as one of the city's most charming boutique hotels. With just 15 rooms, the hotel feels as personal as it is elegant. All are named after prominent Uruguayan artists, writers and actors and blend classical elegance with contemporary flair.

In common with most other small hotels you won’t find a restaurant offering dinner, but there’s a pretty café serving breakfast and a small lounge-library. You’ll also find a choice of museums and down-to-earth restaurants nearby, whilst the authentic, buzzing port market with its astonishing array of asado lunchtime barbecues is just a couple of blocks away.
