Pampa Hermosa Ecolodge
A friendly and comfortable thatched wildlife eco-lodge on the banks of a rainforest-fringed river in the Peruvian Amazon.
This congenial, family-friendly eco-lodge is situated on the banks of the river Ulcumayo, a jade green, rock-strewn waterway cutting a swathe through jungle vegetation. Fringed by huge trees, and swollen with the water from excitable streams, the river is an ideal place for an adventure lodge, offering swimming and rapelling down smooth rock faces coursed by waterfalls, while trails along the bank introduce you to the minutae of tropical wildlife.
The rustic lodge consists of smart but simple wooden, thatched cottages with private bathroom (hot and cold water). Some of these cabins have terraces or balconies overlooking the forest and there are hammocks and deckchairs where you can sit to enjoy the view and watch the birds. They are fairly spacious, with comfortable beds, and feature golden hardwood throughout. There is a covered restaurant with open walls, and a bar where the walls are covered with faded photographs of the family who founded the lodge.

Most Memorable Moment?: Machu Pichu probably the best experience but the train journey there was amazing (and unexpectedly so).TA, Edinburgh
Undoubtedly visiting Machu Picchu. Albeit have to give special mention to Soy y Luna, Colca Lodge and Antigua Casona San Blas, they made us feel very special. Finally the organisation and the guides were all warm and friendly and made us feel like family.RS, Northwood
By fay the most memorable part was our time at refugio Amazonas.... The staff made our stay wonderful. Really cannot recommend this place enough.JW, Swadlincote
The whole holiday was memorable and the flow and way it had been planned was excellent - we had a build up that allowed us to visit other parts of Peru, acclimatise and take in the history, culture and natural scenery before capping it off with the Inca trail and Machu Picchu!AB, Reading
Highlights?: Visiting Machu Picchu and climbing the mountain. The hot springs at Colca Lodge. Seeing the condors in the Colca Canyon. Trying to walk 100yds at almost 5000m. :-)MP, London
"We saw some amazing scenery, the train was wonderful and Machu Picchu unbelievable."PS, Stanmore
The Belmond train ride to Machu Picchu followed by the tour round Machu Picchu was stunning and very memorable. However, the Amazon was also wonderful, especially the breakfast in a creek, the sunset trip, and the walk in the rainforest.MS, Alton
Inca Trail: This was an incredible experience. The guide/porters were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.DH, Aylesbury

Highlight?: The whole of the Ausangate trek - the best short trek we have ever done in terms of scenery and local culture with the added advantage of comfortable mountain lodges.AST, Berwick-Upon-Tweed
Machu Picchu was the most memorable part of the trip. The rain forest was fun. We loved the Andean Express train journey too.MdlATS, London
For me, I think that it was the Lords of Sipan and Royal Tombs Museum, and the Temple of the Moon at Trujillo. For Angela, it was Tucume and the Temple of the Moon.PS, Reading
"The people, mixing with the Peruvian people in the markets, talking and laughing with them."JL, Cobham
Highlight?: Probably the condors at Colca Canyon.PT
Most memorable experience: “Probably visiting the islands on Lake Titicaca followed closely by HB train and Machu Picchu"TS, Birmingham
“The most enjoyable… Having chocolate pancakes in the narrow cobbled streets of Cusco. And in the mountain village of Aguas Calientas. And in lots of other places. The kids having fun with the cats at the cat park of Lima. Meeting a mountain family and finding out about their way of life. This included meeting their guinea pigs – kept purely for their meat.”LBM, South Africa
Highilght: Watching condors rise on the thermals in Sondondo.RE, London
Highlight?: The train journey to M Picchu and seeing M Picchu - absolutely awesome and I got a seat on the left of the train (for best views!). The tour of the Salt Flats and journey to San Pedro were stunning too. Really good tour guide during this part. Hannah at JLA was a great help before and during the holiday. She made it possible to visit on the desired dates (e.g. so I could go on a star gazing tour in San Pedro during a change in mood cycle). Always replied promptly to my emails. Especially appreciated little extras - e.g. being on the left of the train to M. Picchu for the best views, being allocated window seats on planes, etc. All this meant I could really enjoy the scenary. Stand out hotels were in Urubamba, M. Picchu, and Uyuni - all exceeding my expectations. I didn't realise so many lunches / dinners were included which was a great bonus.MP, Amersham
Highlight?: The Ausangate trail. Loved it.ID, Hereford
I really liked variety on this trip - amazing culture, history, nature all in one trip. Machu Picchu tour was great, excursions in rainforest were very memorable.
Everything was fantastic. We had a great holiday that we will remember for years to come.CLA,
"All of it was memorable in different ways as the culture is so different. We found the Peruvian people helpful and cheerful. We enjoyed Arequipa, the Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca, along with all of the trips and transfers."GH, Keighley
Most Memorable Moment?: Arriving at Machu Pichu - seen the photographs could not believe actually there.CM, Bradford-on-avon
Most Memorable Moment?: Getting to the top of Huayna Picchu.PR, Edinburgh
Peru was incredible. The slick organisation of Journey Latin America allowed us to really enjoy every moment. The service was excellent and I would thoroughly recommend.HG, Malvern
Highlights:- It is difficult to pick out just one experience from such a plethora of new ones. There was so much to see and absorb in Peru which was fascinating but Machu Picchu must rate very highly in our list of memorable events on the mainland as must the whole Colca Canyon experience including the drives through the Highlands to Chivay.ND, Lewes
Highlight: Being able to recreate photographs at Sasqaywaman above Cusco of our relatives who came to live in Peru in 1910.CC, Bristol
"It was the overall experience that was important and I keep finding myself recalling small details that were entrancing at the time and then got lost in the next bout of sensory overload. In the end, I'd say it was the fact that I was able to speak almost nothing but Spanish for the duration of my trip that gave and gives me the greatest pleasure. Partly this is satisfaction that I adapted my Castillian Spanish so well to Peru. More importantly, I know that I got much more out of my guided tours because my guides were able to convey subtleties in their own language that would have got lost in translation. This is one of the key pluses of the 'tailor made' model. Having mainly private tours and excursions meant that I rarely had to compromise on this, for me, key aspect of the experience."DM, Nottingham
