Isla Suasi (formerly Casa Andina Private Collection)
Charming superior hotel in a secluded and magical setting on the uninhabited island of Suasi on Lake Titicaca.
Set in beautiful untouched countryside on a private island on Lake Titicaca, this charming superior Isla Suasi hotel is a magical place to spend a couple of days relaxing. It has impressive green credentials too: the property is powered by solar energy, built from local materials like stone, adobe and totora reed, and run by a friendly local workforce.
There are virtually no other inhabitants on the island: a sprinkling of resident llamas apart, its serenity is almost exclusively yours to enjoy. Reaching Suasi from Puno entails a scenic waterborne journey of around four hours, stopping en route at the floating Uros islands and the isle of Taquile.
An exquisite terraced garden sweetly scented with roses and medicinal herbs leads down to the lake edge. In the main building, the wood-beamed rooms all have lake views and a log fire, welcome on chilly evenings. Staff will light it for you each evening and will even leave a hot water bottle in your bed among the thick, warm duvets. For the ultimate retreat, there is also a two-bedroom cottage on the lakeshore with a private butler on call.
The delectable home cooked meals make use of produce from the hotel's own kitchen garden. Amongst its other facilities, the hotel now has a new fibreglass speedboat for excursions on the lake.
