Pozo del Cielo Hotel
Pretty, rustic-looking retreat with sloping roofs and traditional adobe walls in a peaceful location surrounded by the beauty of nature.
This pretty retreat has a peaceful location on the edge of the valley's principal town, Chivay, with views of the Colca river. Close to the canyon itself and secluded from noise and light pollution, Pozo del Cielo is a great base for soaking up the enchantment of the natural environment.
Sloping roofs and a charmingly higgledy-piggledy design give the hotel a rustic look inspired by the character of the region, interspersing local stone with traditional adobe walls painted in earthy ochre tones. Rooms are sparsely furnished but have a distinct Andean charm and views of the river or the beautiful flower-filled gardens. Some also have a small terrace. Heating can be a problem (as is common in the Peruvian highlands in all but the top hotel categories) but cosy blankets are provided for warmth. There is also an attractive dining hall with a log burning stove.

Inca Trail: This was an incredible experience. The guide/porters were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.DH, Aylesbury
For me, I think that it was the Lords of Sipan and Royal Tombs Museum, and the Temple of the Moon at Trujillo. For Angela, it was Tucume and the Temple of the Moon.PS, Reading
Highlights?: Visiting Machu Picchu and climbing the mountain. The hot springs at Colca Lodge. Seeing the condors in the Colca Canyon. Trying to walk 100yds at almost 5000m. :-)MP, London
“The most enjoyable… Having chocolate pancakes in the narrow cobbled streets of Cusco. And in the mountain village of Aguas Calientas. And in lots of other places. The kids having fun with the cats at the cat park of Lima. Meeting a mountain family and finding out about their way of life. This included meeting their guinea pigs – kept purely for their meat.”LBM, South Africa
"Obviously Machu Pichu was a highlight but Ollaytaytambo was impressive, Chinchero was lovely and Cusco was fantastic [we're looking into buying a house there!] the Vistadome, particularly with the staff on the return journey to Cusco, who put on a fashion show, music and dancing for us, which they genuinely seemed to enjoy too, was fantastic. I'd also really recommend Huaco Pacllano in Lima - I'd never seen a site like it before."SAG, Hythe
“We enjoyed all the places we visited on our holiday in Peru, and the experience was enhanced by friendly and knowledgeable local guides. The spectacular scenery we saw will stay in our minds for quite some time.”MM, Newcastle Upon Thyne
I really liked variety on this trip - amazing culture, history, nature all in one trip. Machu Picchu tour was great, excursions in rainforest were very memorable.
Peru was incredible. The slick organisation of Journey Latin America allowed us to really enjoy every moment. The service was excellent and I would thoroughly recommend.HG, Malvern
It was memorable because of the cultural and geographical variety so can't pick out particular part. We were in 3 different climates, in mountains, jungle and coast. Probably enjoyed the places where we had most interactions with nature i.e. Lake Titicaca and jungle.SL,
Highlight?: Too many to mention but the Condors and Machu Picchu were spectacular.GB, Westerham

"We saw some amazing scenery, the train was wonderful and Machu Picchu unbelievable."PS, Stanmore
We had a private tour, which we think was the best way to do this sort of trip. Although we had only 9 days in Peru in the Cuzco area, we managed to cover an extensive amount of material in depth and the whole trip was unforgettable. The local organisation was superb - punctual, knowledgeable, reliable, etc.PS, Reading
"It was the overall experience that was important and I keep finding myself recalling small details that were entrancing at the time and then got lost in the next bout of sensory overload. In the end, I'd say it was the fact that I was able to speak almost nothing but Spanish for the duration of my trip that gave and gives me the greatest pleasure. Partly this is satisfaction that I adapted my Castillian Spanish so well to Peru. More importantly, I know that I got much more out of my guided tours because my guides were able to convey subtleties in their own language that would have got lost in translation. This is one of the key pluses of the 'tailor made' model. Having mainly private tours and excursions meant that I rarely had to compromise on this, for me, key aspect of the experience."DM, Nottingham
Most Memorable Moment?: Machu Pichu probably the best experience but the train journey there was amazing (and unexpectedly so).TA, Edinburgh

The Peru holiday was all very well constructed. Favourite parts were the floating islands, the nocturnal canoe trip and the trek to Macchu Picchu. Organisation was brilliant and it all hung together very well. Thanks!AMW, Letchworth
