Andean Peru and Bolivia have some of the best hiking opportunities in Latin America, if not the world. This trekking holiday combines two popular and spectacular trails, on in each country, and although reaching high altitude, are not technically difficult and within the abilities of most keen walkers.
The Salkantay trek, an Inca path which ends close to Machu Picchu, can really rank alongside the better known Calssic Inca Trail for its dramatic scenery, and has the added attractions of passing remote farmsteads, fields rich with tropical crops, and what is probably the best first-time view of Machu Picchu across ranges of rugged mountains.
The Choro Trail in Bolivia, leading from high altitude La Paz down into the semi-tropical pre-Amazon valleys, has the appeal of being mostly downhill. You can easily appreciate the influence of altitude on the landscape: from a skeletal rocky pass towered over by icy crags through cloud forest and on down to the tropical plantations of the Yungas n the foothills separating the high Andes from the Amazon region.
In both cases you'll come across hardy people leading tough lives in small remote communities and farmsteads - a lesson in resilience for us in the First World.

Chile is such a beautiful country, with an extraordinary range of landscapes. It was a wonderful journey.DW, Wells-next-the-sea
This was my first experience of Latin America and I fell in love with it. Chile is the most beautiful country, and JLA's Penguin journey provided a superb insight into its diversity of landscapes. The tour leader and the office support were outstanding. Thank you very much.
One of the most memorable moments was walking up to Machu Picchu and revealed itself in front of us!!! The places we went to eat at were advised by the tour leader and local guides with really good local dishes and good quality. We were unlikely to have found them otherwise.MN, Wantage
Group tour was all memorable - for all the right reasons! A trip with JLA is a trip with the local experts. They respond quickly to challenges such as FCO advice not to visit an area and know the local people who can make the holiday really memorable. One other comment about Colombia - the people we encountered, of all ages, in the streets, shops, hotels etc were friendly, welcoming and the most polite I have met anywhere in the world!HR, Brentford
Iguazu Falls - awe inspiring Paraty - beautiful restful place Bariloche - incredible scenery with an excellent local guide, perhaps the best we had, so enthusiastic and interested in us. Rio - The guide who had designed The Favela Trip was very, very interesting and appeared so genuine.JK, Liversedge

Overall an excellent trip with many wonderful memories, lived up to all expectations.
Many good memories - arriving at Macchu Picchu was something we had wanted to do for many years, so was probably the most memorable.CA, Wembley
Machu Picchu. What a privilege to go to such a stunning place. It was a little too busy in the morning, but walking part of the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate in the afternoon, when it had quietened down was an experience I will never forget. The train from Puno to Cusco was also something very special. In fact, most of the trip was just amazing. Well organised and we saw so much that would probably have been impossible as a solo traveller.RW, Holmfirth
It was an amazing holiday with so many wonderful experiences and stunning scenery. Possibly in the months ahead the images that will stand our are: the Perito Mereno Glacier, Torres del Paine, the Fitzroy Mountain shining in the morning sunlight, the trip on the Beagle Channel and the Iguazu Falls. We were blessed with unusually fine weather which made the trip even more memorable. No wind in Patagonia, and calm waters in the Beagle Channel!JH, Radstock
A well planned trip covering all the highlights we wanted to see.
A great trip, thoroughly enjoyed by a good group (of 8) that gelled well. We saw so much, did so much and and our expectations were well exceeded.GP, Woking
Amazingly the trip was everything I had hoped it would be. Having wanted to go to Patagonia since I can remember, and having the opportunity arise fairly last minute, choosing JLA was a good decision! Great itinerary and good organisation left me to enjoy the experience!JA, Sutton
Enjoyed the trip to the equator while in Quito. Loved Alausi, very interesting place, people. Cuenca was lovely, very easy to get around, felt safe, staff at hotel very helpful, happy hour cocktails 2 for 1 delicious! Las Cajas national park very interesting. The Galapagos week was fantastic! Staff really professional, islands and wildlife more than I imagined, learnt to snorkel, scenery fantastic. The group were also really nice, and as a single traveller this made my holiday really special. And on the whole the weather was very sunny and warm. Enjoyed the picnics we had during our trips in the Andes, which the tour leader arranged, especially the exotic fruits which she advised us to try.JC, Bury
It was a wonderful experience which I wouldnt have missed for the world. The organisation was first class, all the staff in all the hotels friendly and helpful.CL, Newport
"It was a magical experience, a well organized trip that gave me piece of mind, which is what a holiday should be. Well done Journey Latin America."LM, Arbroath
I saw truly unique scenery and interesting historical buildings & monuments but for me it was wonderful to see all that I did and stay in clean comfortable hotels on this 'Discovery' tour. Thank you JLA.MS, Lymington
Our first trip to S. America was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Everything was very well organised and we couldn't have had a better group leader than tour leader. The local guides were very knowledgable and enthusiastic to share their country. When we booked this holiday we thought it would be our only trip to S. America, primarily to see Machu Picchu but now hearing the tour leader talk about other tours she has run we are eager to see more of the continent with JLA.FM, Aberdeen
I found the trip most enjoyable and very thoughtfully arranged to maximise our experience - I have no complaints at all about the trip and found it extremely enjoyable. Our Guide was excellent - very friendly and informative and looked after us all very well. Overall an extremely enjoyable holiday.CW, Newcastle
This trip offers so many breathtaking moments. Overall it is the variation of landscape and wealth of history that impresses and spotting varied wildlife.WK, Shoreham-by-Sea
Amazing enjoyed every minute i don't usually do group tours and rather travel independently but journey Latin America has changed my mind.SJ, Jersey
It was a wonderful trip. It was all good. In saying what I say next that is not to denigrate anything else. However, here we were at the vineyards outside Mendoza. It is a beautiful day weather-wise. We have had a fine tour of the vineyard and winery. The vineyard is itself beautiful and peaceful. Now we are in a lovely modern building for the 'lecture' and tastings. I am feeling very happy. Can it get any better? Yes. I look beyond the lecturer out of the window and there I see the beauty of the vineyard and 'just' behind that of the high Andes. Breathtaking!IM, London
I have been travelling for over half a century but his was my first organised tour and it was wonderful. As I said on my return I would go again next week if my diary was not full, I needed a rest and was not minded to spend as much again so soon.
The itinerary was fantastic and perfect for 3 weeks.AMT, Tadworth
An exceptional trip which really gave us a feel for the countries we visited. A special mention should go to our tour leader - he was outstanding.EJ, Chorley
The boat trip, down the river, the waterfall and above all the trip, through the mango swamps and seeing the flamingos it was magical. However the archeological trips to the different pyramids were also amazing.IR, Malta
It was overall an excellent experience.
We have travelled with JLA on several occasions throughout South America. JLA may not be the cheapest tour operator, but booking with JLA means peace of mind, expert and helpful advice, reliable pick ups and travel arrangements and expert and informative tour leaders and local guides. A holiday should be free of worry and JLA take care of everything!CR, Bath
Lived up to my expectations of seeing 3 countries in one holiday.PM, Arundel
It is difficult to identify a highlight as the whole trip was so varied and memorable. However, the yurt and the landscapes in Torres del Paine and Iguazu were spectacular.VP, Haywards Heath
"This was a very important holiday for us and we were a little apprehensive but it was a wonderful experience."HB, Perth
The colourful people of Guatemala, the beautiful scenery at Lake Atitlan and the wonderful atmosphere of Antigua City.JR, Prudhoe
Where do we start? 25 condors at Colca Canyon, vicuna, llama and alpaca at every turn, fabulous weather, the surprising majesty of the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and the amazing Iguassu Falls in full flow after heavy rain in the interior. 6 equally wonderful experiences.MR, St Albans
A very well organised and fascinating holiday. An excellent tour leader who helped make the experience very special. Thank you all for all your efforts on our behalf.
Most memorable experience? "Lots - Tour of Caracas, the canoe trip to Angel Falls plus the Falls themselves, the night bus trip to St Elena followed by good facilities to freshen up, Rock View (see above), the canopy walkway, which I surprised myself by taking in my stride (!), the somewhat challenging jungle trip by substandard "minibus" to Georgetown, the canoe and parogue crossings along the coast, the trip to the Iles du Salut and the visit to the Arane Space Station.
I was very happy with the experience, but I suspect that this was one of your more unusual trips, as practically all the places we visited were not usual tourist areas. But I got all I could realistically expect from such a tour."ET, Huddersfield
The beauty of nature, particularly the Torres glowing at sunrise and the vastness of the Perito Moreno glacier. The views from the planes were also fantastic!TW, York
