Enchanting 16th century hacienda with original Mayan stone carvings, perfect for history lovers. Just a ten-minute walk away from Chichén Itzá.

Hacienda Chichen is an enchanting 16th century conversion is within easy walking distance of the world-famous Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá and yet epitomises the peaceful, historic ambience of Mexico’s hacienda hotels. Mingling colonial details with traces of a far older period in the country’s past, the hotel even features original Mayan stone carvings hidden amidst its buildings and gardens.

There are 28 guestrooms, divided between rustic cottages dotted about the grounds and the main building. Rooms are very stylishly decorated, with iron bedsteads, a large private bathroom and a tiled terrace complete with rocking chair and hammock. There is also a pretty patio restaurant beside the pool, and another dining option and sitting room in the main building.

There's a traditional Mayan spa and an organic garden, abundant with tropical fauna – much of which can be traced back to the plant collection of former owner and site archaeologist Edward Thompson.
