Puerto Vallarta beyond the beach
Tour the colonial heart of Puerto Vallarta, the marina, beachside promenade and travel down the picturesque coast.
Travel down the craggy coast from Puerto Vallarta with its pretty bays and countless beaches backed by rugged mountains to Mismaloya, a pretty former fishing village where there are still plenty of little boats speckling the bay. This is where the 1964 film Night of the Iguana was filmed and the vestiges of the set remain.
Following a tour of a tequila distillery, continue to Puerto Vallarta which offers all the facilities of a modern beach resort. Its treasure however is its historic core, where you’ll find the cathedral, with its gold-crown-tipped steeple, from which a jumble of evocative colonial streets and Spanish-style houses tumble down to the beachside promenade.
Walk along the palm-shaded malecón, fringed with plenty of little shops and bars, and peruse the flea market at Cuale river island. On the way back to your hotel make a stop at the marina to survey the many luxury yachts of the rich and famous.
