Eagle: Aztecs, Mayas and conquistadores

14 days from £2,228pp question

Question Classic Group Journey
Mexico is one of Latin America's most vibrant and entertaining destinations, with a huge diversity of historical, cultural and natural attractions. Lose yourself in the superb museums and teeming plazas of the megapolis Mexico City, wander the cobbled streets and soak up the Spanish colonial features of Oaxaca, Campeche and Mérida. Explore the glorious ancient monuments which lay hidden, smothered and silent for centuries amid the deep valleys and jungles of the south, before ending your trip in the lush Yucatán Peninsula, fringed by white sand beaches.

From here you're well positioned to extend your trip to Mexico's Caribbean coast, to Cuba, or across the border to Guatemala.

Most memorable? "Visiting the Church at Chamula. It was fascinating to get a glimpse into the cultures of the indigenous people."

“The day we visiting the Frida Kahlo and Trotsky museums and also the canal. As well as all the wonderful pyramids and the Copper Canyon extension were among my highlights. We were very impressed with our first experience of travelling with JLA. We have been to several Central and South American countries before and had underestimated the impact that Mexico would have on us. It had such a variety of experiences to offer, the colour, the music, the many different and dramatic archeological sites and political history. The ethnic mix added to the diversity and the people were all a delight to meet. JLA allowed us to experience this in its selection of places, accommodation, excursions and especially the tour leader”

"I can't think of anything to improve on the itinerary.  As I had an extra five nights at the beginning and three nights at the end, I was able to do many extra things and visit many extra places, which I'm really glad I did."

"Boat ride through the canyon (just what we needed to blow the cobwebs away after an early start and a long journey). Palenque took my breath away - literally, I climbed to the top of the pyramid! The trip to the two indigenous villages was extremely fascinating."

Please describe the most memorable experience/aspect of your trip? "I loved all of it. The cities, towns, villages, food & drink, history, culture, the people, the scenery etc. Palenque was probably my favourite archaeological site because of the jungle setting. Also really enjoyed Oaxaca and San Cristobal."
