Learn how to make pupusa, El Salvador's signature dish, in a pretty colonial town, Conchagua.

Head to the colonial town Conchagua on the flanks of the eponymous volcano in El Salvador. This is a pretty little place with a flowery plaza on which sits one of the oldest churches in the country. Here you will have a culinary experience with the opportunity to prepare, cook and devour El Salvador's most popular traditional dish, the humble pupusa.

Pupusa is El Salvador’s national dish. The thick cornflour tortilla can be filled with cheese, chicharrón (shredded seasoned pork), refried beans, or a combination of all three for pupusas revueltas. The pupusa dough itself is a simple confection similar to that used in Mexican tortillas. Traditionally, pupusas are created by slapping the dough back and forth between your hands.
