Centrally located hotel in a converted mansion with an illustrious past. Eclectic and characterful decoration adds a boutique touch.
The small Don Carlos hotel is in a converted mansion in San José’s oldest residential area, just a block from the main square. Although just a century old, the building has been home to two generations of presidential families.
The hotel comprises three separate buildings connected by attractive courtyards, open passageways and terraces. Founded by a world-renowned expert in pre-Columbian art, the hotel is decorated with local paintings, antique curiosities, figures and sculptures, including a large hand-painted tile mural in the main lobby depicting San José in the 1920s.
Rooms are fully equipped and comfortable, while hotel facilities include a cosy restaurant, a Jacuzzi and a relaxing sundeck.
