Charming 17th century building on the banks of the sleepy Magdalena river, with a picturesque courtyard garden, a roof terrace and a serene yet cheerful atmosphere.

Set on the banks of the Río Magdelena and just a stone's throw from the centre of historic Mompós, this lovely 17th century building is a wonderful place in which to unwind in a hammock or rocking chair, easing into the town's distinctly slow and sleepy pace of life.

The family-run Casa Amarilla follows a traditional colonial design with a beautiful courtyard garden at its centre, bursting with the vibrant colours of tropical plants and abuzz with hummingbirds. There's also a rooftop terrace overlooking the tiled rooftops and serene streets below.

Guestrooms are stylishly decorated with wooden furniture, ceiling beams and shuttered windows; some have their own private roof terrace. There's no restaurant but a delicious breakfast is served in a room at the back adorned with murals, and there's also a communal kitchen which, together with the many relaxation areas dotted around the building, lends a sociable, friendly atmosphere.
