Colombia Bogota
Thanks to its location in the heart of the Andean mountains, Colombia’s vibrant capital stands at a considerable altitude - 2,600 metres closer to the stars.
Overiew
Colombia’s edgy capital is a microcosm of the country’s complex society. Huge, anarchic, choked with undisciplined traffic, it also has a lovely colonial core, La Candelaria, and modern suburbs cluttered with upmarket boutiques, nightclubs, glamorous restaurants and plush apartments. Further away, the hills are pitted with the self-built, ramshackle homes built by people arriving in the city looking for work.
A centre for the intellect, Bogotá has many excellent museums, cinemas, theatres, music venues and universities, along with a vigorous café society. The urban sprawl is overshadowed by Andean peaks glowering over the city which, at 2,640m, enjoys a climate of perpetual spring.

Where to go when - our guide to Bogota

The weather in Bogota is wide and varied
Thanks to its location in the heart of the Andean mountains, Colombia’s sprawling capital stands at a considerable altitude - 2,600 metres closer to the stars, according to the city’s slogan. Bogota enjoys a perpetually mild, spring-like climate, so you can visit its excellent museums, theatres, music venues and rustic cafés at any time of year.
Temperatures tend to hover around 14°C with sunny spells, showers and cloud cover fluctuating throughout the day. Generally you’ll find the most sunshine and least rainfall from December - March and again from Jul - Aug. You may also want to plan around the fascinating and varied cultural events that the city offers: Carnival celebrations in July, International Theatre Festival March - April, and a world renowned Jazz Festival in September.
