Palafito 1326 is an unusual hotel-on-stilts offers the opportunity to experience life above the water in Chiloe's capital, Castro.
Palafito 1326 is on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and in the heart of the Palafitos de Gamboa neighbourhood, a 10 minute walk from the centre of the island's capital, Castro. It is unusual for being contained in a renovated traditional palafito (house on stilts), blending perfectly with nearby houses and offering a unique accommodation experience.
The hotel has been decorated with more than a nod to local culture, incorporating original native woods and textiles. The well insulated and bright guest rooms are provided with thermal heating and large windows allow the passage of translucent daylight, with views towards Castro fjord and Gamboa river or over the street. Additionally, there’s an internet lounge, dining-living room and large terraces, and service is friendly and helpful.
What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
Lovely setting, furnishings, and polite, helpful staff. Large bathroom spoiled by the sink being outside bathroom, in the room. Pity the upstairs cafe was only open for a short time on one evening while I was there. The breakfast area was overcrowded and difficult to be comfortable having to share bench seats at a communal table. However, I would recommend it as I loved the terrace overlooking the harbour, and it was a very pretty area. Some may find the walk to the city centre a bit wearing, especially after a long day if one needed to go there to get an evening meal.SC Penryn
Charming hotel in a great location.CH, London
It was fun to stay in a Palafito, this was fine, not luxurious, but quite good enough.RH, Carshalton
Excellent quirky hotel in recently (?) re-developed part of town. Great location, cool hotel.AC Devizes
Interesting location and very helpful providing an early breakfast on our last day.JL Richmond
A really clever renovation of one (or two?) old palafitos with the interior sensitively fitted out in wood and very neat insertion of bathrooms. Generous and delicious breakfast at shared tables, and a good choice of places to eat a short walk away in Castro townMT Henley-on-thames
Outstanding. The room was very comfortable and the views stunning across the estuary. The staff were helpful. The option to use the kitchenette attached to the lounge during the day for hot drinks and light meals was a real bonus. We loved this hotel.KB, Esher
