Inspired by the natural materials and ambience of the Atacama desert, the small, design-focused Terrantai incorporates sun-baked adobe bricks, thatching and weathered wood and stone into the surrounds of a restored colonial house. A labyrinthine layout of outdoor corridors, built from smooth rounded pebbles and atmospherically lit at night, adds a somewhat mystical feel in keeping with the otherworldliness of the desert environment.
The hotel is right in the heart of San Pedro, overlooking the town church. Rooms are decorated in rustic yet contemporary style, with wooden floors, ceiling beams and either whitewashed or exposed stone walls, and furnished with local artisanal textiles. Outside there’s a plunge pool and sun terrace fringed with cacti. There's no restaurant service at the hotel (besides breakfast) but you'll find a wide choice of places to eat on your doorstep thanks to the ultra-convenient location.
