Stylish, rustic hotel of terracotta-hued adobe buildings opening up into cool, spacious interiors.
The stylish, terracotta-hued Altiplanico is located on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama, with views of the mountains and Licancabur volcano.
Curving adobe walls, straw roofs and simple doors and windows open up into cool, spacious interiors. All rooms are quite individual; some have roof terraces, some fireplaces outside, and all have a little terrace out the front. Etchings in the stone walls take inspiration from indigenous motifs and desert wildlife.
A cool shady area outside with an inviting pool area is a welcome luxury after a day’s sightseeing in the arid surroundings. There is also a good restaurant.

"A unique amazing place to stay and all staff were very friendly and helpful always with a smile."JS, Harrow
Initially I thought the room/cabin a bit spartan, but then decided it actually worked really well, in the context of where it was - wouldn't want to change it.CT, Chesterfield
Very charming hotel with a beautiful garden at the periphery of San Pedro, which was a real plus for the family. Beautiful decoration. Above all, a big thank you to the director of the hotel for her tremendous help during our stay after my husband's accident.BP, London
"We loved the peace, layout and service at Altiplanico which is for people like us, who prefer authenticity rather than everything done to order the minute something is requested."CA, Amersham
"A truly exceptional hotel with wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Super pool area, good food and nice to be out of town but not too far to walk."AM,Cheltenham
"Fantastic innovative architecture, we loved this place when we arrived. However: the swimming pool should be heated at this altitude - it was cold."CC, Carnforth
Loved the styling and private accommodation. Little bit far from the town but we didn't mind the walk. Others may prefer more central location but we thought the individuality of the hotel was worth the walk. Lovely and quiet.ND, London
Really different and characterful hotel. Staff were pleasant especially in the restaurant. Very relaxing place to stay.SB, Milnthorpe
An amazingly well equipped and comfortable hotel in a remote part of the world.CF, Tring
"Beautifully designed hotel well laid out."DH, Newton Abbot
Charming hotel, we all loved this hotel!RN, London
Very attractive hotel, nice to be able to walk into San Pedro but out of the bustle. Only slight downside is the restaurant had a fairly limited menu in the evenings.NM, London
"Perfect. A bit of a walk to the town centre but otherwise great."JB, Market Harborough
Lovely hotel and very helpful staff.MM, Holt
"Wonderful place, so relaxing, friendly staff, great food, room brilliant.”NW, Shrewsbury
We appreciate that the hotel aims to be eco friendly, but some sort of air-conditioning in the bedrooms would have been helpful.PCA, Riding Mill
Very good base for Atacama visit. Just out of town so quiet and peaceful.DA Northallerton
Good location, just out of town. Limited choices at the restaurant but oveall we enjoyed our stay.KD, Dartford
Great stay. Food could have been more local versus largely international.BL, Tunbridge wells
