This agreeable Ecolodge, Pedra Afiada,  is set in large forested grounds with a dramatic location at the foot of the towering cliffs of Itaimbezinho Canyon, catering for nature lovers of all ages.

The 19 guest rooms and chalets, some in a separate building, with canyon or garden view  are very comfortable with air conditioning and ventilator, bathroom, and terrace or veranda with a hammock. There’s a large restaurant for generous and tasty traditional Brazilian buffet meals, a sauna and plunge pool.

The accent here is on nature and ecology, and the many guided activities reflect this: go hiking along the river bed of a steep-sided canyon, mountain-biking, quad-bike explorations, and river swimming. One the extensive property itself is a “contemplation tower” from which you can enjoy mountain views and watch birds, a well-signed nature walk around the grounds, zip line and children’s playgrounds, although there is no pool.

It caters for families, couples and groups of friends, mainly Brazilians but it is very friendly and welcoming to all. The lodge can get busy with children in school holidays (Jan-Feb, July) but is otherwise quiet.
