It’s always been one of the best ecolodges to stay in the Pantanal, with a prestigious reputation, excellent facilities and much admired service. The Refugio Caiman is now even better.
The beautiful Pantanal itself, an enormous wetland throbbing with wildlife, is an attraction in itself: in addition to clouds of soaring birds from egrets to parakeets, lumbering cabybara blocking the tracks, abundant caiman dozing on the riverbanks and giant tuyuyu (stork) nesting in the flowering trees, giant anteater and howler monkey are spotted on a regular basis.
You can be a spectator to this wildlife theatre at this ecolodge, where you stay in either of two outpost lodges elevated on stilts. Each has just 5 or 6 well furnished guest rooms and is situated in isolation, surrounded by marshes, lagoons and pastures. Customised meals, top quality guides and swimming pools to cool off in enhance your experience.
The enterprising lodge is well known for its conservation work with macaws and jaguars (up to 70 live on the estate; jaguar-tracking activities can be pre-booked there).
