Pousada Portas da Amazonia

Rustic Pousada Portas da Amazonia is an endearingly shambolic pousada in the centre of atmospheric Sao Luis.

This quirky hotel in São Luis' historic centre occupies three restored mid-19th century townhouses. It’s perfectly in keeping with the faded grandeur of the surrounding streets, and is quite a haven from the sticky heat outside, cooled by retro ceiling fans. Huge oak doors, period furniture and other unusual features compose a simple, rustic place to spend a night or two.

The resulting effect is intriguing, as long creaky corridors and hardwood staircases no longer follow their original logical layout. Materials from the former residences have been imaginatively used often in novel ways - the tables of the attached pizzeria are marble blocks - their original purpose is now redundant. Many of the differently-sized guest rooms have shuttered doors opening on to a small balcony overlooking the street, which can be boisterous at weekends.

What our clients say

97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.

The whole holiday was memorable but Patagonia Camp and the walk to the Torres del Paine was the best. Absolutely breath taking. We wished we had stayed one more night here.
