A charming boutique-style, upmarket pousada immersed in a garden bursting with bouganvillea, hibiscus and cashew-nut bushes. It's one of the few in this remote region which is on the beach.

Atins is a small village close to the dunes of the Lencois Marinhenses National Park. It is a good base for exploration of the wave-like dunes and gemstone-clear lagoons, and is just 50m from a natural beach – an attractive spot but without any beach services or facilities. Sand dominates the landscape here, the ‘streets’ within the village are composed of sometimes deep sand,

Hotel Oceano Atins is a converted residence with just a handful of guest rooms. It styles itself ‘boutique’ and is certainly unique, decorated with many works of contemporary art, many of the artists being friends of the friendly and helpful owner, who is usually present to greet guest with a welcome cocktail. It is also very simple, rooms have no TV or air conditioning, although the self-styled 'suites' each have ventilator fan, sofas and living areas, internet access, personal safe and hairdryer. Three of the four have access to the veranda, a lovely place to relax with a book or drink. One of the suites is suitable for families. There is a restaurant for all guests, massage and laundry services and excursions such as horse riding can be organised.
