Friendly colonial hotel in a remote coastal location where guests can get away from it all, far from the distractions of modern life.
The friendly colonial Pousada Picinguaba will appeal to those looking to get away from it all in a remote and peaceful setting – without modern distractions such as television, telephone or internet.
The hotel is perched on top of a small hill overlooking the coastal rainforest and glistening ocean. Just beyond is the tiny, unspoilt fishing village of Picinguaba, located in the protected Serra do Mar National Park in between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
A 15-minute walk takes you to Praia da Fazenda, a virtually deserted 4km stretch of beach on the other side of the bay. Other small beaches and tropical islands can be reached via a short boat trip, while surfing, kayaking, fishing, horse riding and massages can all be arranged at extra cost.
There are just ten simple rooms, decorated with local artwork and almost all with a private balcony and hammock. The honeymoon suite has a Jacuzzi bath and splendid vistas over the forest-clad hills and ocean.
Dinner is either a three-course set meal or an informal barbeque held in the well-tended tropical garden. Other amenities include a garden pool, sauna, games room and honesty bar.
