37km offshore from Salvador on the island of Tinharé is the village of Morro de São Paulo, accessible by catamaran. Morro de São Paulo is agreeably relaxed and traffic-free, with a raucous jumble of bars and pousadas at one end and a handful of peaceful properties on dreamy, deserted beaches at the other. We’ve chosen a hotel on the island’s most beautiful beach Praia do Encanto, where you can really get away from it all.
Day 1: Transfer to the port in Salvador and local catamaran (2.5 hrs) to Morro de Sao Paulo.
Spend 3 nights at hotel Vila dos Orixas (upper mid-range) on the remote Praia do Encanto. Porters and a hotel truck will meet you on arrival for the half-hour ride along the bumpy track to the other side of the island.
Days 2 and 3: It’s up to you. Options include spending your days swinging in a hammock, book (or caipirinha) in hand, swimming in the warm sea or hotel pool, snorkelling and beachcombing (you can walk along the beach all the way to Morro de Sao Paulo village in about an hour – there is also a hotel shuttle if you fancy an evening out).
Day 4: Local catamaran to Salvador and transfer to hotel Casa de Amarelindo for 1 night.
Day 5: Transfer to Salvador airport for your onward flight.
