Glover’s Reef Basecamp
Glover's Reef Basecamp is a permanent tented camp on a coral atoll off the coast of Belize, offering kayaking, snorkelling, diving and stand-up paddling.
An atoll is an offshore ring-shaped coral island, or series of islets, surrounding a lagoon. One of three atolls offshore of Belize, Glover's Reef Atoll, is surrounded by remarkably clear water hosting an abundance of marine life – some of the most prolific in the Caribbean.
Glover’s Reef Basecamp is a safari-style, permanent tented camp situated on a small coral islet, Southwest Caye, with a barrier reef on one side and lagoon on the other. Its location guarantees superb opportunities to witness the theatre of life under the seas. The 13 tents have wooden floors, proper beds and kerosene lamps, and are pitched on sugar-white sands and shaded by palms. Your tent has a private deck with chairs where you can sit in the evening to enjoy the night sky.
You have four nights at the camp, and spend your days enjoying the guided (and self-guided) activities on offer - sea kayaking, stand-up paddling, snorkelling and scuba diving. Snorkelling is usually done in the lagoon’s calm waters, where the kaleidoscope of marine life is readily accessible. (There is plenty of training and briefing on how to use the equipment). Glover’s Reef is a sociable place and the atmosphere is convivial: you’ll soon be swapping traveller’s tales with your fellow guests over a beer at sunset.
