Estancia Rincon Chico
Estancia Rincon Chico is a homely lodge from where you can explore the Patagonian coast and discover its abundant wildlife.
Rincon Chico is a cosy base from which to explore the Patagonian coast with its abundant wildlife and wild, rugged scenery. Set in a remote area, this family-run lodge is nevertheless just a couple of hours’ drive from regional airports. Previously the estancia reared cattle and sheep, but since 2017 it has been entirely dedicated to conservation, allowing the native wildlife to flourish, with rhea, skunks and guanacos roaming the grounds. The estancia is also rich in birdlife, with up to 120 species spotted including burrowing owls, kestrels and buzzard eagles.
The lodge has just eight simple yet comfortable bedrooms. There’s quite a bit of nostalgia in evidence throughout, with walls (and, it seems, all available nooks and crannies) adorned with books, old family relics and traditional farming implements. In harmony with the homely atmosphere afternoon tea is served daily, supplementing the rustic home-cooked meals. The attractive building has a veranda where you can relax or enjoy a drink while contemplating the flat pampa and vast Patagonian sky - sunrises are particularly beautiful here
The property includes 15km of fossil-lined private coastline and beaches upon which elephant seals and sea lions breed each year, and, according to season, southern right whales, penguins and killer whales loiter offshore. Survey them on guided nature walks, hikes and nature drives.

Too many highlights to mention - almost every day. Unexpected highlight was the 3 Lakes crossing from Puerto Varas to Bariloche in beautiful weather.JM, London
Difficult to identify (the highlights of my self drive holiday)... I would highlight the interest of the looping drive down the mountains to the west....watching the leaves of the roadside foliage increase in size as the temperature rose was mesmerising. I would suggest that the pleasure of long drives through changing countryside is one of the unsung pleasures of such holidays as mine. But perhaps that's just lazy old me!RS, Salisbury
Hotel Club Tapiz and visiting the wineries in Mendoza was a real highlight. The Iguazu falls were also incredible.CAA, London

We loved all of it, we really enjoyed the scenery of Humahuaca Gorge and the drive to Cafayate. Iguazu falls are incredible also and a definite highlight....We found our whole holiday experience excellent. It was nice to be able to see so much in 2 weeks whilst still feeling relaxed as we were looked after so well by all our guides. The personal itinerary and help we received made a huge difference to us and we were impressed by the standard of all our hotels. The only problem was that we wished we had longer so we could of seen more.HB, Abingdon
