Rincon del Socorro
Historic estancia converted into a small, atmospheric guesthouse: a haven of rural tranquillity on the fringes of the remote Iberá wetlands.
This haven of rural tranquillity nestles on the fringes of the remote Iberá wetlands in Argentina’s balmy north-eastern corner, home to an impressive array of fauna including river otters, capybara, alligators and over 340 species of birds. Marshy lagoons and open country make wildlife relatively easy to spot.
Once part of a cattle ranch, Rincon del Socorro's historic estancia building has been converted into a small, atmospheric guesthouse, its walls adorned with images of the region’s wildlife. Cooling tiled floors, whitewashed walls and an outdoor pool add to the relaxed, subtropical feel of the place. Ostriches and capybara roam Socorro’s palm-studded lawns. Sunsets can be magical.
There are half a dozen en suite rooms, plus three adjacent small bungalows. Delicious meals, often sourced from the estancia’s orchards, are served on the patio. The library is stocked with literature about the region.
Included in your stay are boat excursions on the lagoon of Iberá, a rich habitat for alligators and marsh deer, and you are free to explore on foot, by bike or on horseback. There should also be a chance to enjoy an outdoor barbecue lunch at the estancia’s private quincho.
