Trek in Los Glaciares National Park

arg20-fitzroy-free-dn

Take three days to explore a compact national park boasting stunning scenery and the famous Fitz Roy massif.

The jagged peaks of Los Glaciares National Park frame some of South America’s most dramatic trekking territory. For lovers of the great outdoors, we recommend this three-day hiking and ice trekking adventure covering all the park’s main highlights.

Setting off from the Rio Blanco, you’ll first follow a trail tracing the riverbank through dense subantarctic beech forests before rising up through the valley to sweeping views of the Piedras Blancas glacier. Beyond the river lies a panorama familiar from many a postcard: the Laguna de Los Tres, where the photogenic peaks of the Fitz Roy massif rise up from a vivid turquoise lake to pierce the skyline. Spend the night camping nearby, surrounded by awe-inspiring natural scenery.

On your second day, hike past the beech-fringed Madre y Hija lagoon and on into enchanted woodland; it’s not far to another iconic viewpoint across to the pointed granite spikes of Mount Torre.

Finally on day three you’ll enjoy a new vantage point with a panoramic boat trip to the sprawling Viedma glacier and an unforgettable ice trek across its sapphire-blue terrain.
