Llao Llao Hotel Resort occupies an enviable position on a promontory between the crystalline waters of lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, surrounded by ancient cypress woods. Its spectacular views extend to an amphitheatre of mountains including the snow-drenched volcanic peak of Mount Tronador.
Built in 1940 at the height of Argentina's belle époque, the hotel is a vast, impressive building made from huge cypress logs and the green stone typical of the region. The Llao Llao is among the most luxurious properties in the Argentine lake district and has long been regarded as a prestigious place to stay.
There are some 200 rooms, each with splendid mountain or lake views. There is a restaurant and also a less formal café which serves an elaborate buffet breakfast. The grand lobby has a large open fire and live piano music in the evenings.
Facilities include a sauna, Jacuzzi and a large indoor pool with enormous windows that frame a spectacular natural panorama. There is an adjacent 18-hole golf course (reduced fee for guests), and a spa offering facial and body programmes.
The hotel is perfectly situated for boat excursions onto the surrounding lakes, amidst magnificent mountain scenery. The hotel also provides free transfers to and from nearby Cerro Catedral, one of the major ski resorts in Argentina encompassing a total of 67 km of glorious slopes.
