Tour Leader
On this tour, you’ll be accompanied from start to finish by one of our exceptional Journey Latin America tour leaders. From the moment you land in Latin America until the day the tour ends they will deal with all the practicalities, expertly adapting to the circumstances and individual needs of the group. Rather than different guides in different cities, your leader will get to know the group and keep you informed and entertained as you go.
Transport
4 flights (all between 1.5 and 2.5hrs). All road transport is done in private vehicles for the group.
Summary Of Nights
2 Buenos Aires; 3 Bariloche; 3 El Calafate; 3 Puerto Madryn; 1 Buenos Aires.
Accommodation
On this tour we use mid-range and upper mid-range hotels.
Examples of hotels used on this tour include:
- Buenos Aires: Recoleta Grand
- Bariloche: Cacique Inacayal
- El Calafate: Kosten Aike
- Puerto Madryn: Peninsula Hotel
On very rare occasions these hotels can change, however please speak to one of our consultants who can provide full details for each departure if you have any doubts. Address and contact details will be sent out with your final documents.
Meals
Breakfast daily; Lunch provided on days 4 and 11 as part of your daily excursions.
Optional Excursion
There are optional excursions available throughout this tour, which are booked locally through your tour leader once you are in Latin America. Not all excursions available will suit everybody, whilst others only operate within certain seasons, with minimum numbers or may not be included due to time constraints. A budget of around $250 USD should cover participation in most of the following options, but prices can fluctuate depending on the size of the party and so cannot be provided accurately until travel commences.
The list below is only a guideline, so please enquire with your consultant and tour leader for any further areas of interest:
- Buenos Aires: Evening tango show.
- Bariloche: You have a free day for further walking, scenic drives or boat trips.
- El Calafate: You have a free day to explore more glaciers, do some hiking or visit an estancia.
Travelling Alone
There is no extra cost for single travellers who are willing to share a room. You will be accommodated with a same-sex member of the group who is usually also travelling solo. For single travellers who wish to be sure of having their own room there are a limited number of single supplement places available, which carry a surcharge.
Finance
The unit of currency in Argentina is the peso argentino.
Prices do vary within each country and high end restaurants tend to be similarly priced to a UK equivalent. Hotel restaurants are also usually more expensive. As a rough guide at the time of writing, in Buenos Aires:
- The cost of a 2 course lunch/dinner at a mid-range restaurant = US$25.00/$35.00
- The cost of a small (0.33l) bottle of national beer in a mid-range restaurant = US$4.00
- The cost of a glass of “house wine” (Chilean or Argentine) = US$4.00
Please note: Prices in Patagonia vary and can be up to 30% more expensive
A full guide on how best to take your money for this tour and tipping guidelines will be provided with your final travel documents or can be requested from your travel consultant at any time.
Climate
As a broad overview Argentina has the opposite seasons to the UK, meaning November to February tend to be the warmest summer months. The further south you travel in the country the cooler it gets. A full comprehensive overview of the weather in all the regions you are visiting can be found by clicking here.
Our expert travel consultants can answer any questions you may have on climate and further details will be sent in your travel documents.
Clothing, Special Equipment and Luggage
A daypack is essential for carrying rainwear, snacks, books/tablet and a water bottle as are comfortable walking shoes. Those who feel the cold should take thermal underwear. Bring a hat with a visor, sunglasses and sun block. Binoculars are useful for bird and wildlife spotting. Because the weather can be changeable we recommend wearing layered clothing for excursions.
Please take note that Aerolineas Argentinas (who will operate most of the internal flights) permit a maximum of 15kg hold luggage on all domestic flights. Excess luggage can be paid for locally for a small fee. Please get in touch with the office before departure if you have any doubts.
Vaccinations, Visas and Insurance
Preventative vaccinations are recommended against typhoid, polio, tetanus and hepatitis A. For specific requirements however you must consult your GP. You can also find helpful information at https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home.
Holders of a full British passport do not require a visa, although passports should be valid for at least 6 months after the trip begins. Other nationalities should enquire with us or check with the consulates.
Travel insurance is essential. Details of our recommended policy can be found on the Travel insurance website.
Our full briefing dossier contains more information on vaccinations, visas and insurance and will be provided with your final travel documents or can be requested from your travel consultant at any time.
