Falklands cruise: Wildlife outposts of the South Atlantic
Overview & Highlights
A South Atlantic cruise enables you to spend a whole week exploring the Falkland Islands, its prolific wildlife, wilderness scenery and nostalgic British culture.
- Half day city tour with Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires
- Excursion in Tierra del Fuego National Park
- Guided excursions from your cruise ship in the Falkland islands and Cape Horn
- Guided walking tour in Santiago
Travelling on a comfortable new expedition ship, complete with hotel-style facilities, you’ll set sail from Ushuaia to cross the oft-turbulent waters of the South Atlantic to the remote Falkland Islands, pausing to admire Cape Horn en route.
Besides being a remote outpost of a bygone British culture, the wilderness archipelago is renowned for its windswept beauty and craggy, wildlife-rich shores. There are two main islands and 776 smaller islets - most virtually uninhabited - off the fractured coastline.
There are glorious views over the savage island landscapes: pearl white beaches where sea-lions laze, rugged hills mantled in a cloak of tufty grass, cliffs flecked with vast colonies of black-browed albatrosses and pitted with the burrows of rockhopper penguins.
Survey the old sheep farms some of which date back to the early days of British colonisation, and the capital, Port Stanley, culturally a relic of mid-twentieth century Britain – red post boxes, tea rooms, old fashioned pubs and many references to the haunting narrative of the 1982 war.
At either end of your voyage you’ll have the opportunity to discover the contrasting capitals of Chile and Argentina, Santiago and Buenos Aires respectively.

This was my first experience of Latin America and I fell in love with it. Chile is the most beautiful country, and JLA's Penguin journey provided a superb insight into its diversity of landscapes. The tour leader and the office support were outstanding. Thank you very much.
