Sustainable Travel

Water to Go

We've partnered up with Water To Go UK in hope to reduce waste by offering clients a 30% discount on filtered water bottles.

As global companies pledge to cut plastic pollution, the impact of single use plastic has been at the forefront of everyone’s mind in recent months. With the airing of Blue Planet II, Sir David Attenborough highlights the effect plastic is having on our oceans and is actively calling on the government and the public to try and reverse some of the damage this substance has had, and is still having, on our landscapes, wildlife and oceans.

Our love of Latin America permeates through everything that we do; we want people to experience this region and its awe-inspiring beauty for generations to come. Therefore, in tandem with AITO, we are working on a pledge to encourage sustainable practices in the destination we send our travellers.

Did you know that on a two week holiday you could (on average) be buying 28 single use, plastic bottles of water – not only will that be costing you around £30, it also has a huge impact on the management of plastic waste, but the problem comes when you want to drink safe, fresh water whilst you’re away. So to combat these problems we have partnered with Water-To-Go to offer our customers a solution; safe drinking water from a reusable bottle. A unique filter system technology eliminates 99.9% of all bacteria, viruses, chlorine, fluoride and heavy metals such as lead, as well as contaminants like pesticides; so you can fill up your bottle from any tap or stream – making it not only good for waste management and your wallet, it is extremely convenient.

We’re offering Journey Latin America clients a 30% when using the code JLA30 at checkout on the Water-To-Go website.

Top Tips For Your Water Bottle Use

  • Try and keep the bottle upright, for example in a side pocket of a rucksack.
  • The bottles are designed to be sturdy and strong, as WTG understand the amount of wear and tear a bottle can go through while travelling. They are also strong to protect the filter inside.
  • The bottles are not designed to pour water out of the spout, as the water ideally needs to be sucked out through the filter to be purified. However, there is a soft spot on the outside of the bottle which can be squeezed to pour some water out. This is towards the bottom of the area of the sleeve and you’ll need to have a squeeze to find out where it is. This will release some purified water, if you need it to brush you teeth for example.
  • When you have activated the filter, be sure to release some of the water this way as it will flush out the first purified water, otherwise it’ll taste of chemicals.
  • If you find that the water flow isn’t strong or the lid has been leaking a bit through the spout, this could be due to the breather valve (small rubber hole in the lid, under where the spout lies) being dislodged or stuck. This could have happened after a flight or due to altitude. This only requires you to take the lid off and prod the breather valve a bit to release any pressure  (see video).
  • Make sure you keep the lid as clean as possible, as if bits of dirt get into the under-seal, this can wear it aware and can add up to filtered water leaking out via the silicon joint under the ball joint. Please do get in touch if you encounter any issues with the bottle as we are in constant communication with Water To Go about developments and potential improvements.
