Travel Consultants

Sophie first visited Latin America on a year abroad in Santiago as part of her university degree, where she studied Spanish at a local university and spent the holidays backpacking around as much of South America as possible. After completing her degree in Spanish and French in the UK, she returned to Central America and travelled from Mexico to Panama overland. Her love of travel then took her to China where she taught English for a year before returning to the UK to join our holiday sales team. Her flair for translating clients’ individual preferences into exceptional, personalised travel experiences quickly came to the fore. One of our most popular, well-travelled and articulate consultants, she is now a Team Leader in the sales department. For Sophie, it is the mixture of wildlife (she has visited the Galapagos Islands three times!) and nature combined with local culture and heritage that continues to draw her back to Latin America.

My favourite place in Latin America

Having lived in Chile I have an affinity with the country, but I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over and it's a real struggle to choose a favourite place. Some of the regions that stand out most to me are the Galápagos Islands, Easter Island and Bolivia’s Uyuni salt flats.

My top tips

1.

The Brazilian side of Iguazú Falls offers an overview whereas the extensive network of trails on the Argentine side allows you to get close to many different sections of the falls – it’s best to take a waterproof with you as you really can get near enough to get drenched!

2.

The incredible landscape is what draws most people to Patagonia, but the food and wine will also almost certainly be amongst the highlights of the trip. Chilean seafood is delectable, while Argentina is renowned for beef... and lots of it! My favourite cuts are bife de chorizo and bife de lomo: I find you never go wrong when ordering those!

3.

There is no wrong time to go to the Galápagos: the climate is not extreme and at each time of year some of the fauna species will be breeding, nesting or particularly active. Generally speaking, the weather is hottest between December and May with warm, calm seas but more chance of showers.
