Travel Consultants
Adam’s passion for Latin America was sparked at an early age, watching documentaries about Inca ruins and the wildlife of the Amazon Rainforest. He joined Journey Latin America in 2006 after graduating with a degree in French and Spanish, initially working as part of our dedicated Customer Services department. Now an enthusiastic member of our Group Tours team, he enjoys relating his experiences and recommendations to anyone considering travelling to Latin America.

Adam counts memories of hang-gliding over Rio de Janeiro amongst the highlights of his travels, alongside experiencing the spontaneous, musical culture of Havana and Trinidad in Cuba, the cascading waters of Iguazú Falls, and the lost Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. A keen mountain biker, Adam’s dream trip to Latin America would involve cycling around Peru’s Sacred Valley, stopping only when necessary to refuel on delicious lomo saltado and ají de gallina.

My favourite place in Latin America

Mexico City is one of my favourite cities in the world. Often just a stop-off point before visiting other parts of the country, DF – as it’s known locally – deserves a minimum three-night stay in order to fully appreciate its attractions, from the amazing Diego Rivera murals and Frida Kahlo museum to the pyramids of Teotihuacán or the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco.

My top tips

1.

If visiting Machu Picchu for a day, do consider taking the 90-minute hike up cobbled paths leading to the Sun Gate (follow the signs from the Watchman’s Hut, no permit required). Although it’s a steep path there are no sheer drops, making it ideal for those who are looking for a spectacular view, who don’t have the head for heights to climb Huayna Picchu.

2.

Consider treating yourself to a short helicopter ride over Rio de Janeiro. Starting from Sugar Loaf mountain, flying over Copacabana beach up to Corcovado and circling the Christ the Redeemer statue, you can fully appreciate the beauty of this iconic city.
