"I so enjoyed your Chile event on Monday. Pete Selman was inspirational and I am so thrilled he won the gold award. My husband and I will be poring over your brochures and planning a trip with you, possibly in late 2011.  Peter Selman just has to be our guide too." E. Davidson

Colombia - Wednesday 21st July

Private viewing of art collection created by ceramicist Nicholas Arroyave-Portela at his latest exhibition Todo Sobre Mi Padre

EVENT HAS ENDED

In celebration of Colombia’s bicentenary of independence (20th July), Journey Latin America teamed up with the Colombian Tourist Board to invite you to a private viewing of Todo Sobre Mi Padre (All About My Father) art exhibition.

Critically acclaimed British ceramicist Nicholas Arroyave-Portela revealed his much-anticipated new body of work in a solo show at Contemporary Applied Arts. Arroyave-Portela has spent the last 3 years dedicated to producing and refining Todo Sobre Mi Padre, a collection of eleven framed ceramic wall pieces exploring the universal theme of identity.  Many of the pieces touch upon his father’s Colombian roots through the various migrations that occurred throughout his father’s life.

The exhibition was recently reviewed on the UK Crafts Council website.

"It really does make a difference to meet up with the people in a travel company – it adds such personality over and above one’s links by phone and internet." B. Walker.

Peru - Monday 21st June

Guest speaker Stanley Johnson gives a talk on his recent adventures in Peru

EVENT HAS ENDED

Stanley Johnson, journalist and father of Mayor of London Boris, recently returned to Peru, exactly 50 years since he first explored the country. He has kindly agreed to give a one-off talk reminiscing on two visits to Machu Picchu a half century apart, describing his forays into the Amazon jungle, and sharing his insight into how Peru has changed and developed over the years. As it turned out, his recent trip was no less adventurous than the first: caught between two crises, he will tell of his struggle to get to Machu Picchu during the mudslides and his arduous journey home, featuring a rescue by the Navy aboard the HMS Albion when volcanic ash closed British airspace. This event is sponsored by Inkaterra hotel group.

"I thought the evening was a great success - it was nice to talk to so many people who are enthusiastic about Latin America. And also not to feel one has to be a super athlete to risk going to such altitude to visit Peru!" L. Perryman

Mexico - Thursday 3rd June
