I’m desperate to escape the Olympics! Where is good to visit in Latin America at that time of year that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

The games start on 27 July and finish 12 August, which is the height of the peak travel season – so to give you an idea, the average cost of a ticket to South America at that time of year will set you back around £900 but the earlier you enquire with dates, the higher chance we’ll have of securing you a good deal.

July and August are ideal months for visiting the Andean countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and northern Chile – you can expect warm, sunny days followed by cold nights given the altitude. If you would like to travel with a group, which is usually the most economic way to travel, our two-week Condorito journey to see Peru’s classic highlights including Machu Picchu departs the UK 28 July and returns to the UK 9 August – but fear not, if you like we can arrange for you to fly before the trip starts and arrange for you to return home a few days later so you miss the games completely. We could extend your stay for example in Cusco which is a fascinating city and a great base for a number of treks or you could head to the Amazon, or to the desert-backed coast to see the famous Nasca Lines.

The cost of the tour is £2,898 which includes international flights, transport, guesthouse accommodation, domestic flights, some guided excursions and breakfast daily. An added bonus, if you’re travelling alone, is that there are no obligatory single supplements.
