Venezuela: Beach Hotels and Resorts in Venezuela

With its archipelagos and larger islands, and offshore national marine parks, the Venezuelan Caribbean coast offers holidays for visitors with a wealth of choice, with everything from tiny family posadas in unspoilt villages to large Caribbean resort hotels. Here you'll find the door opens to some of the best Latin American beach holidays available.

Much of Venezuela's Caribbean coastline is completely undeveloped and in its natural state: pearl white through to burnt gold soft sand beaches are closely backed by coconut groves and steep lumpy hills swathed in tropical vegetation.

We have narrowed down the choice to the best spots for your Caribbean beach holiday, whether it be the focal point of your trip or a few days beach wind down at the end of your holiday in Venezuela or one of the neighbouring countries less well endowed with holiday beaches.

From west to east they are:

Morrocoy National Marine Park:
There are thousands of mangrove islands in a calm shallow sea, many with slivers of white or golden sand, others with larger white, soft sand beaches with a few low key services. Visit by boat. 3.5 hours drive from Caracas.

Posada Paraiso  Azul.

Los Roques islands:
The mostly deserted coral cays and white sand swept islands of the archipelago Los Roques is the Caribbean’s largest marine national park. There is great snorkelling off of the reefs  within aquamarine and jade green waters. 30 minutes’ flight from Caracas.

Stay at one of several posadas in the barefoot village of Gran Roque:
Posada Mediterraneo
Posada Natura Viva
Posada Piano y Papaya

Coro

This is a lovely colonial town with a pretty beach covered in coconut palms a 40 minute drive away.
Granja el Ojito

Choroni/Puerto Colombia:
Popular barefoot beach resort, small town/fishing port (weekend and holidays only, quiet otherwise) and backpackers, going upmarket. Tropical forest tumbles down to beaches and bays on steep cliffs, the town is very laid back, pretty colonial buildings, many small posadas, no luxury hotels. Accessible from Caracas (3.5 hrs from airport).  Possible beach stopover from Lima, Quito and Bogotà.

Margarita Island:
This is It is Venezuela’s all-inclusive, package resort island, with a wide choice of hotels, bars and restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and water sports. The bulk of the resort hotels are close to the capital Porlamar but further afield you find:

 • Lovely, low key beaches with comprehensive facilities (Playa el Agua)
Hotel Costa Linda

 • Beaches with just one or two signature properties – Playa el Cardon
Chana Hotel

 • Specialised beaches – Play Yaque, a young, active atmosphere for windsurfing and kitesurfing
Hotel Yaque Paradise

 • Offshore islands: stay on the broad white beaches of Isla Coche
Hotel Coche Paradise

Cumana and Mochima National Park:
Mochima National Park has red stone cliffs with thick vegetation lining a fjord-like coastline with little bays and red or golden beaches only accessible by boat, only a few have any facilities.

Hotel Marajual in the park itself
Hotel Cumanagoto, with its own beach and boat trips to the park

Paria Peninsula:
Here, densely forested hills along the shoreline are dotted with a succession of virtually deserted beaches that are some of the most captivating in the Caribbean. Sheltered by headlands, the best beaches are long bays of warm yellow sand, backed by groves of coconut palm. it’s an area untouched by tourism, with a friendly rural population raising buffalo or exotic fruits, living in flowery villages and small colonial fishing ports,

Our Comment

I have been travelling all over Latin America for almost 30 years and would argue that Venezuela has some of the best beaches outside Brazil. Choose between family resorts and car-free sandy villages shaded by palms. Excellent wind-down and relatively short flight home. Read about my explorations of the Venezuelan coast in 2010 in this article I wrote for our online magazine, Papagaio.
