A real mix of romance and elegance in the jungle, this is a top-notch lodge, one of a prestigious Peruvian chain of imaginative and innovative upmarket properties.
Those with a head for heights can enjoy unsurpassable jungle views from the Inkaterra Canopy Tree House, towering 26m above the ground. Built on to the side of the canopy walkway and linked by a suspension bridge, this exclusive hideaway is a wonderful vantage point from where to take in the sights and sounds of the Amazon. The tree house has twin beds, portable toilet and removable mosquito netting. Even an on-site butler is on call; guests can be served snacks, cool drinks, or even a bottle of chilled champagne as sun goes down over the rainforest.
Of all the lodges in the Peruvian Amazon, this one is definitely the most luxurious, and offers the most privacy. There are 30 individual thatched-roofed, mellow lantern-lit cabins with crisp white bed-linen, shiny polished wood floors and warm-water showers. A lofty wooden pavilion houses the excellent restaurant, with a menu brimming with fresh local ingredients and there is a mezzanine lounge with comfy sofas and panoramic rainforest views. A range of escorted excursions is offered so that you can appreciate the bird and butterfly life around the hotel and possibly spot shier mammals and reptiles hiding in the creeks along the river.
Our Comment
This is great for anyone wanting to experience jungle magic but without a huge wildlife agenda. We particularly approved of the decision to avoid electricity, except in the public areas; this makes for a really atmospheric base from which to enjoy the sounds of the jungle.
