| One of the warmest welcomes in Latin America awaits you at the Anglo-Argentine working estancia Los Potreros, where by day you ride across rolling open hills, and by night you enjoy home-cooking and wine accompanied by the entertaining anecdotes of your hosts.
There is a real sense of history at this isolated ranch, which has been in the same family (the Beggs) for generations but where English is the spoken language. The family are so welcoming that you'll be happy to bring your family with children to stay here; there's a lovely family room available which sleeps four.
There is a stable of 50 superb, responsive horses for riding along a network of trails across glorious sierras and meadows somewhat reminiscent of Yorkshire.
The 200 year old house offers really homely guest-rooms dotted with the owners’ books and antiques. Great care is taken to ensure that guests are comfortable, both in and out of the saddle. Polo games, walking and birdwatching are other tempting activities you can take part in from the lodge, and there is an outdoor pool (summer bathing only!).
Non-riders are welcome but it is riding enthusiasts who will get the most out of a stay here. That said, it's a perfect opportunity for beginners, so sure-footed and well-trained are the horses, so an excellent choice for families where children or even grand parents would like to try their skill in the saddle.
Our Comment
Try a Peruvian pace horse for a smooth ride. The steeply undulating landscape is not conducive to galloping; rides are appropriate for beginners while still delighting experienced riders. You will be made to feel so at home here that when you leave, it is like saying goodbye to old friends.
