In Buenos Aires' newly regenerated docklands area, Puerto Madero, an austere 100-year old grain silo has been developed into what is one of Latin America's most prestigious properties.
Opulent, flamboyant, innovative, the Faena represents an interesting departure for designer Philippe Starck, whose unfussy minimalism has been combined with modern designer-pomp to create a truly unique hotel. Faena's public areas and guestrooms are a thought-provoking blend of imperial and contemporary style. Engraved glasswork, deep velvets and crystal chandeliers feature prominently.
Whilst the extravagant décor can be astonishing, it is the impeccable service which leaves the most enduring impression on those who come here. Nothing is done by halves. Indeed, for some guests, a stay at Faena is by itself sufficient justification for a visit to Buenos Aires.
The bohemian San Telmo district is adjacent, while the historic landmarks and boutiques of downtown Buenos Aires are a few minutes away by taxi. Ezeiza international airport is 35km from central Buenos Aires.
Our Comment
The Faena is the embodiment of industrial chic... it’s a fun, arty, indulgent place to stay - definitely an experience, not just a place to sleep.
