| A quaint Alpine-style lodge with a heavenly setting on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, 3km from Bariloche and surrounded by lawns and backed by woodland. To the front, there is a small beach, jetty and outstanding lake views.
It’s a compact place, constructed entirely of wood painted cobalt blue. All the rooms and most facilities are in the main house so the atmosphere is cosy, sociable and welcoming. Picture creaky wooden floors, a large open-plan lounge with comfy sofas, crackling fireplace, reading room and inviting little bar. The position of the indoor/outdoor pool makes the most of the lake and forest scenery and there’s a hot tub outside among the pine trees.
Rooms – all with lake views - are charming if smallish with stripped, painted wooden walls. They aren’t intended to be luxurious in the conventional sense, so there is no Jacuzzi or TV. Instead, all are decorated uniquely, furnished with reconditioned antiques. A choice of activities and excursions can be booked including riding and walks.
Don't miss the spa. We reckon it’s worth succumbing to a soothing massage at the end of the day and trying out as many of the treatments as possible.
There are regular daily flights from Buenos Aires to Bariloche. It’s an hour’s drive from the airport or alternatively 2½ hours by road from San Martín De Los Andes. If you are making the lake crossing to Puerto Varas in Chile, allow 2 hours to reach the terminal.
Our Comment
Excellent gourmet food. I especially liked the delicious, fresh buffet and à la carte menu to accompany it, with treats such as smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and tea served from silver – nice touches you don’t find elsewhere.
If you are looking for a place to down tools for a few days and enjoy the lake district without having to stray too far, with its lawns, beach, spa and views one could stay here for 2-3 days without leaving the grounds
