San José, the second largest of the Pearl Islands in the Gulf of Panama, is 90km and a 20 min. flight from Panama City. Here, humpback whales can often be seen on their migratory route.
The island has always been uninhabited and hunting has been kept to a minimum, so the wildlife is undisturbed and prolific. Sea turtles nest on the islands' beautiful beaches.
This family-owned lodge, Hacienda del Mar, is set on the private tropical island of San José, the second largest of the Pearl Islands. It has seemingly endless white sandy beaches and abundant wildlife including sea turtles and anteaters, and humpback whales pass by here on their migratory route. It has 12 cabins with private bathroom and balcony with sweeping views of the ocean and lush surroundings of virgin forest from wide screened windows.. There is a restaurant serving fresh seafood, bar and snack bar. Leisure facilities include a pool, sauna, and small gym.
Our Comment
The lodge is so accessible from Panama City that it would be possible to visit for just one night. However, we feel that such a unique location is worth visiting for a minimum of 3 nights.
