The private island of Jicaro enjoys a spectacular setting on Lake Nicaragua, just a short boat ride from the cobblestone streets and colourful old houses of Granada. It is one of a group of 300 small tropical islands known collectively as Las Isletas.
Jicaro Island Ecolodge has 9 split-level cottages (casitas), built almost entirely in Rainforest Alliance approved hardwood. Each has a king-size bed on the upper level and a spacious lounge area, plus shower and separate vanity, on the ground floor. All have a terrace with an enticing hammock to take in the lake views. Water is heated by solar panels. Morning coffee or afternoon sundowners can be delivered to your casita on request.
The open-plan restaurant serves delectable dishes using local ingredients. Guests can relax by the small infinity pool or adjacent bar. Alternatively, take advantage of the resort’s menu of open-air massage treatments or take a yoga class on a floating platform blissfully looking out over the lake.
The hotel is owned by an Englishwoman who knows her English clientele well, and the standards of the service and hotel amenities/hotel bear this in mind.
Our Comment
I loved this secluded paradise in the middle of Lake Nicaragua with amazing views of the Mombacho Volcano and the lake itself. The private casitas makes the perfect setting for couples or for escapists who just want to relax. It is possible to use the hotel as a base to explore the area around Granada.
