Morelia: Villa Montaña

The Villa Montaña is a first class hotel overlooking Morelia from a hill to the south of the town. The hotel consists of a series of cottage-style colonial houses - one room per house in the main - interlinked by a series of tiled or brick paths and bridges in extensive leafy gardens with waterfalls, cypresses and statues.

There is a medium-sized (heated) pool with a terrace and view over the city. The exterior of the buildings is terracotta or natural stone and rooms are elegantly decorated with antique-style heavy wooden furniture, tiles and statuettes. The hillside location of the hotel means that there are many different levels (and steps) which, added to the ornamental park setting, give a feeling of privacy, elegance and romance.

Our Comment

At first sight the hotel looks like a mini-village  - no obvious reception, cottages of different shapes and sizes, but rooms, bathrooms and verandas are very spacious. The open fires in some rooms are very welcoming.
