Mexico: Yucatán: Hacienda Mérida

The Hacienda, an attractive 19th century property is conveniently located in the heart of the historical centre of Mérida, 3 blocks from the main square. It has 8 rooms painted in bright, earthy colours and equipped with flatscreen TV and private bathroom. Executive rooms have a large terrace overlooking the lap pool below, fringed by colonnades and greenery. Furnishings are tastefully contemporary but do detract from its colonial ambience. There is a small bar but no restaurant as such, but guests can eat at its sister property next door- Hacienda Mérida VIP - or take advantage of numerous eateries nearby.

The Hacienda VIP has just 4 big rooms with both contemporary and colonial features including ipod dock, four poster beds draped with bright linens, abstract paintings and heavy wooden doors. One suite has its own terrace. Rooms overlook the outdoor pool (unheated, not chlorinated) or the elegant colonnaded terrace. There is also a massage pavilion plus a bar and restaurant that's exclusive to guests.

Our Comment

This hotel is probably the best option in town. Although in the centre of the city, it resembles a countryside hacienda, just without the extensive grounds! The hotel is owned by a French family and run by the son. English is spoken by most staff,  I found a very friendly atmosphere.
