This popular resort is a 5-10 minutes' walk from the huge archaeological site embracing the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá (the hotel runs a shuttle bus to the ruins).
This well-maintained hotel, Hacienda Chichén Itzá, is a converted 16th century hacienda, complete with Mayan stone carvings. It once belonged to archaeologist Edward Thompson, and the gardens still benefit from his extensive plant collection.
There are 28 guestrooms, divided between rustic cottages dotted about the grounds and the main building. Rooms are simply but tastefully decorated, and have iron bedstead, large private bathroom and tiled terrace with rocking chair and hammock. There is also a pretty garden patio restaurant beside the pool, and another dining option and a sitting/TV room in the main building. There's a traditional Mayan spa and an organic garden.
This is a romantic option for couples as the hotel oozes charm and historical character while offering superior facilities. Antonio Vaquero, Training Manager
