Mexico: Yucatán: Hacienda Mayaland

The large resort Hacienda Mayaland hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá; indeed the main doorway of the hotel frames El Caracol - the observatory.

It is a bustling and popular place, but its 40ha of beautifully landscaped grounds mean it never feels crowded.  90 spacious rooms and suites are on 3 floors in the 19th century main building and in thatched bungalows scattered throughout the grounds.

All rooms have air-con, fan, minibar, en suite bathroom andbalcony/veranda. There are 3 swimming pools, 6 restaurants and several bars. Many of the fruit and vegetables served in the restaurants are grown on site. Leisure facilities include massage, tennis and 3km of trails winding throughout the grounds. There is also a spa in the Pavarotti building  - the building was built especially for his stay.

Our Comment

The reception is a bit overwhelming with hoards of people but as soon as you move further away (particularly towards the royal bungalows) it becomes more peaceful. The higher standard rooms are particularly good and if you are just staying for 1 night this is a good option due to its close proximity to the archaeological site.
