The most refined of a necklace of countryside retreats housed in restored colonial haciendas, Temozón will really make you feel you have stepped back into history – and the illustrious history of the colonial aristocracy at that.
The cliché “lovingly restored” might have been invented for the way once prosperous haciendas, which had fallen into disrepair, have been transformed into smart accommodation for visitors exploring the Mayan and colonial vestiges of the Yucatán Peninsula.
You feel more like a guest at a large country house than a hotel. Neat palm-speckled lawns, a neo-classical, lap-length pool and a stately drive lead to the smart terracotta main building: they in turn are overlooked by the shaded al fresco restaurant on a grand terrace. Rooms are huge with towering ceilings, and bits and pieces of frescos and other features of the faded splendour of the original building are preserved.
We’ve been there
"Hacienda Temozón really is one of the best places I have ever had the fortune to stay at. The hotel certainly has an exclusive feel and the service is discreet and friendly. Where else will you have the opportunity in Mexico to stay in such grand surroundings without blowing your budget?"

Don’t miss
The magnificent temples and pyramids of Uxmal are only a 40 minute drive away. Dip into the artisan market, and the lively Sunday street-life (with stalls, music and comedy) in easy-going Mérida.
When’s best to go?
The weather is at its most pleasant and least humid during the high season Dec - Mar. Festivals take place throughout the year, carnival and Easter are enthusiastically celebrated throughout the Peninsula.
Getting there
The Hacienda is a 35 minute drive from the international airport at Mérida.
Will it suit you?
A divine spot for those looking for a romantic hideaway and a base for exploring the region avoiding the resorts on the commercialised coast. Families with older teenagers are welcome.

You can combine a stay at Temozón with one or more of the other haciendas in the region – each has its own individual style and each is located close to different attractions. The San José, for Chichén Itzá, and the Uayamón, close to the colonial UNESCO-protected port of Campeche, are among our favourites.
